Volunteer

The Campaign is a volunteer-based effort! Last year almost 450 volunteers helped bring over $18 million in refunds to hard-working Delaware residents. There are many ways to help and no experience is needed! If you're looking to give back in a "real" way – each hour of your time can put up to $5,600 in the pockets of a low-income family, then we would love to have you!

Please join Governor Jack Markell, Mayor James Baker, the Delaware Food Industry Council, the IRS, and many others in a statewide effort to promote the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and free tax preparation to help eligible workers claim it. The EITC is a federal refundable tax credit that can increase the annual income by 35% for some workers.

To sign up, see our Volunteer Application.

Additional Information:
Time Commitment: We know your lives are busy – we will work with any schedule so sign up now! The Campaign runs from January 25 – April 15 and training starts in November.

Experience: No prior tax experience is necessary. Volunteers receive professional tax training certified by the IRS. Check out our volunteer section for more information on training locations, dates, and times. Each site is recognized as an official IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site, eliminating all liability for volunteers. A tax professional is on-site at all times to answer questions and review returns.

Skills: As all returns are filed electronically, basic computer skills are necessary.

College Credit: Are you a student at Wilmington University, Delaware State University, or the University of Delaware? You may be able to get course credit for volunteering. See our Students section for more information.

Note: NOT all volunteer positions involve tax preparation! Please see our Volunteer Job Descriptions for a complete list of positions, skills, and requirements.
